This wine is rated *** by Decanter Magazine in their December 2005 survey of the Lalande de Pomerol, the whole area of which has received major investment over the past few years so that the wines from there are now on a par with at least the second ranking (but much more expensive) Pomerol wines. This wine, 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, is made in the Chateau Haut Goujon's modern winery and matured for 12 months in oak barrels. The wine is characterised by purple hews with an elegant bouquet exhibiting smoked ripe fruit and vanilla. On tasting it is a supple and generous wine which develops fruit notes. The 2001 is just ready to drink now but will keep for 15 years. (two per case)
