Description: This Vintage Champagne is a blend of grapes from Franck Bonville's best vineyards from the 1998 (50%) and 1999 (50%) harvests. The champagne has spicy aromas with an interesting mix of fresh butter and confectioner's custard added in and also hints of marzipan, ripe fruit and nougat. On tasting the vividness and fullness is accompanied with complex flavours of vanilla, bourbon and acacia and delicious flavours of apricot and cherry plum jam all followed by a long finish. Great as a luxurious aperitif and will also go well with fish or vegetable terrines, shell fish, fish free range chicken or white meat. Rated 90 points: ‘Apple, pear and mineral are all on the palate. There is a pleasing amount of acidity and tang. More importantly there is a dry, nutty, toasty and yeasty quality that gives this wine several dimensions. There is a hint of a savory quality not that distant from a good traditionally fermented soy sauce. I am not saying this wine tastes like soy sauce, but it has a quality of it in some way. This wine can increase in temperature to nearly room temp and there are no flaws that I can find, in fact it just seems rich, creamy and the fruit may almost seem peachy. At the warmer temp the savory aspect seems to disappear though, so it’s best to start at refrigerator temperature.’ – spo, cellartracker Rated 94 points: ‘Creamy long finish. Beautiful straw color.
