Description/Tasting Notes:
This wine is made from 100% very old Carignan vines reputedly over 100 years old. Very old Carignan produces a low yield but very concentrated wine but vines of over a 100 years old are exceptional and so it proves with this wine! Very deep concentrated red colour with a fine and complex bouquet this wine exhibits strong aromas of Mediterranean herbs especially thyme and bay leaves together with cedar and morello cherries. The fine structure together with the red fruit flavours and the smooth finish make this superb wine perfect served with grilled meat, game and soft mature cheeses

Just like the cypress tree - the black flame - scattered over the Montagne D'Alaric to the east of Carcassonne, old vine Carignan is perfectly suited to this wild and windy area. This local grape variety has been underrated for more than a century, but now has the opportunity to burn brightly. Our low yielding Carignan vines, some nearly 100 years old, produce a powerful yet elegant wine. It can be enjoyed now or cellared for 20 years. Tout comme le cyprès - la flamme noire - qui parsème les flancs de la Montagne D'alaric à l'est de Carcasonne, les vielles vignes de Carignan adorent ce terroir de garrigue - ventê et sauvage. Ce cêpage autochtone, si dêcriê depuis plus d'un siècle, n'a eu que rarement l'occasion de briller comme il se doit. Dêjà au troisième âge, nos vieux Carignan nous offrent, à bas rendement, un vin à la fois êlêgant et puissant. A boire dès à prêsent ou peut être gardê jusqu'a 20 ans. 13.5% vol.
